Group Delta Consultants has provided geotechnical design and construction phase services to colleges and universities for projects ranging from new buildings/facilities, parking structures, and access roads. Our services typically include geotechnical recommendations for site development, evaluation of alternative foundation types, evaluation of slopes for temporary excavations, a geologic and seismic hazard evaluation in accordance with the 2007 California Building Code (CBC), Title 24 of the CCR and CDMG Note 48, including discussion of the historical seismicity of the area; surface fault rupture potential; anticipated ground accelerations, analysis of the seismic ground motion for the site in accordance with the 2007 CBC/ASCE 7-05; the potential for liquefaction or any other secondary seismic effects, and the potential for any other geologic or seismic hazards to affect the sites.

Project Description:

  • New 5-story 185,000 square feet steel frame medical school building addition on a 2-acre lot in Pomona

  • Construction Phase observations of of shoring installation, foundation overexcavation, subgrade preparation, utility trench excavation and backfill, and pavement base preparation
  • Materials laboratory testing and field inspection of: Fireproofing, foundation-slab-structural concrete, shotcrete, concrete bolts, CMU walls, Reinforcing steel, Structural Steel, Field and Shop welding, High Strength Bolting, Shop and Field Non-Destructive Testing, Drilled In Anchors and Dowels, Compression and Tensile testing of concrete and steel materials

West LA Community College Parking Structure

Project Description:

  • Four level reinforced parking structure on the campus of the college. The structure is approximately 400 feet by 188 feet in plan and has column loads up to 650 kips.

Project Description:

  • New Access Road to extend from Central Avenue to University Parking Lot No. 1.

Group Delta's Role:

  • Field Investigation along new access road
  • Laboratory sampling and testing to characterize the soils and evaluate engineering properties
  • Engineering analysis of field and laboratory data to develop geotechnical recommendations for the design of the pavement.

Harbor College Library

  • New library and learning resource center is planned at the location of the existing Business building
  • Overall dimensions of the new library and learning resource center are about 135 ft X 240 ft.
  • The new building will be a two-story slab-on-grade structure
